HEALTHY SNACKS ON THE RUN

Tips for Parents
|
|
| Snacks are an important part of a healthy diet. When school is in session, mornings and afternoons are often
the most hectic part of the day. Juggling sports, extracurricular activities, transportation, and nutritious foods
may seem impossible due to time constraints. Preparing foods on the weekend so they are easy to grab during the
week can help to speed up hectic times. Here are some healthier alternatives to the generic toaster pastry or
bag of chips for families on the run:
|
|
- Boil a dozen eggs over the weekend and refrigerate for a quick protein source during the week.
Grab an individual carton of milk and some fruit for a well-balanced meal.
- Cut up vegetables, like celery, cucumber, and carrots as soon as you get home from the supermarket.
Place in individual baggies and keep in clear view in the refrigerator for quick, grab snacks.
Add peanut butter or low fat cheese for a snack that will keep you satisfied between meals.
- Try low fat yogurt with a couple tablespoons of granola.
- Whole grain tortillas with peanut butter and raisins can be packed in backpacks without needing
to be refrigerated.
- Part-skim string cheese and a mini-bagel make a perfect solution for a breakfast on the go.
- Consider making your own fruit smoothies in the evening and pouring into individual bottles for
the next day. Low fat yogurt, ice, and crushed, fresh fruit make a delectable dish.
