Job Details: This is a temporary and part-time (10-20 hrs/wk) grant-funded position to start in January 2010 through June of 2014. Dynamic opportunity for those interested in the area of pediatric obesity. Location:Pediatric Prevention Research Center Wayne State University School of Medicine Hutzel Building 4707 St. Antoine 5th Floor/Suite w534 Detroit, MI 48201 Duties: Provide in-home nutrition sessions (that would utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques) to obese African American adolescents and their primary caregiver prior to the start of a home based weight loss research project. The RD would also act as a nutrition consultant for community health interventionists during the research project. The RD may also do health outreach projects (health fairs, nutrition/cooking classes) in the community. Timeline: This position would begin in January with training/supervision in Motivational Interviewing and research protocol development. Meeting with families will start late January and February. Qualifications: Individual must be a registered dietitian or RD-eligible. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are desired. In-home sessions take place in the Detroit community within 25 miles of Children’s Hospital of MI and applicants are required to provide their own transportation.
